Stainless steel heat exchanger design and Zuijia shell structure selection

Abstract: In the design of heat exchangers, the choice of tapered cone structure on the housing is related to equipment safety and economic rationality. A new standard is applied in the design of the heat exchanger boiler to select the tapered cone structure on the housing.
In the design of heat exchanger equipment, in order to meet the requirements of chemical process, a variable diameter expansion space should be provided at the inlet and outlet of the medium. Usually, the variable diameter flanged head is used to realize the expansion space structure. The shape of the tapered cone has a great influence on the thickness and weight of the equipment casing, and is directly related to the cost of the equipment construction.
The lower heat exchanger of the boiler is a stainless steel type II pressure vessel. It is the main equipment for fertilizer production. It has a diameter of 1 500 mm/l 300 mm and a lower heat exchanger with a length of 4 190 mm. The first equipment was retired and replaced in 1989 after the second phase of the fertilizer project was completed and put into operation in 1983. After 13 years of operation, the second equipment was continuously leaked due to tube bundle leakage since mid-October 2002, and is currently in production. In order to ensure the stable operation of the fertilizer plant, the 1988 version of the equipment structure was improved and designed. The four-fold conical head on the casing was changed to a non-folded conical head. The processing cost of the folded head is about 6,000 yuan, and the weight of the main body of the equipment is reduced by 310 kg on the basis of the original equipment. The design points of the equipment are described below.
1 Design conditions The technical parameters of stainless steel heat exchanger equipment design are shown in Table 1.
2 The design of the new boiler is determined. The external connection of the equipment should be unchanged from the original considering the installation dimensions of the equipment and the original process pipeline.
Considering that the equipment should be designed according to the new standard, the casing will be thickened, and the variable diameter flanged head will be changed to the Class A weld RT100% non-folded cone head for weight reduction. The cone half angle is reduced by as much as 5° compared to the original flanged cone head, so that the thickness of the casing is correspondingly reduced.
Considering the reduction of the manufacturing work, the intermediate cylinder section was changed from the original three-section diameter 1 300×18/14 to a diameter of 1 300×14 cylinder sections, so that the two ring welds were removed up to 8.28 m.
