Mexican expert deciphers gene sequence of a soybean nitrogen-fixing bacteria
A research team headed by genetic expert Collado said that the bacteria they studied were called E.triteri, which can fix free nitrogen at the roots of legume crops and synthesize nitrogenous nutrients for crops to enjoy. Experts found in the study that this azotobacter possesses more than 6.5 million base pairs and its gene sequence is complex.
Collado pointed out that the deciphering of Azotobacter gene sequences helped to develop new biofertilizers for crops such as beans and corn, making it possible for these crops to grow on barren soil.
According to Collado’s research team, the above research work ended in November last year, and the scientific research results obtained have been recognized by the National Academy of Sciences. The related papers were published in the first issue of the journal published by the Institute in March.
According to Mexican media reports, this is the first time Mexico has made a breakthrough in the field of genetic research. Mexico has thus become the second country in Latin America to decipher biological gene sequences. Prior to this, Brazilian scientists deciphered the gene sequence of a bacterium associated with grape growing.
