Fatty liver affects heart energy metabolism

Release date: 2007-11-23

New research from the San Raphael Research Center in Italy reveals that young individuals diagnosed with fatty liver disease show abnormal accumulation of fat in the mediastinum and changes in left ventricular energy metabolism. Fatty liver, also known as hepatic steatosis, occurs when excess fat builds up in liver cells due to various factors. However, this condition doesn't just affect the liver—it also disrupts the metabolism of skeletal muscles and adipose tissue. Perseghin and colleagues investigated how fatty liver impacts heart function, structure, energy metabolism, and fat distribution outside the heart. They selected 21 healthy individuals and 21 patients with fatty liver who had similar body measurements for a detailed analysis using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and (31)P spectroscopy (MRS), along with (1)H-MRS for liver fat assessment. The study found that fatty liver patients exhibited reduced insulin sensitivity, higher levels of free fatty acids and E-selectin, and were more likely to have hypertension. Although their systolic and diastolic heart functions remained normal, they showed increased fat deposits around the heart and in the pericardial area. Moreover, the PCr/ATP ratio, an important indicator of myocardial energy metabolism, was significantly lower in these patients. This suggests that even though the heart’s pumping function appears normal, fatty liver can still negatively impact the energy production within heart muscle cells. These findings highlight the broader implications of fatty liver disease on cardiovascular health, beyond what is typically observed in routine exams. ——Midi Medical Network

Smart Anti-theft Door Lock

Smart Anti-theft Door Locks represent the next generation of home and business security solutions, combining advanced technology with robust physical protection. These locks integrate electronic and mechanical components to provide users with enhanced control, convenience, and safety. Unlike traditional mechanical locks that rely solely on physical keys, smart anti-theft locks offer keyless entry methods such as fingerprint recognition, numeric keypads, RFID cards, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi connectivity. This allows users to easily manage access permissions remotely, monitor lock status in real-time, and receive instant alerts if unauthorized access is attempted.

Designed to withstand forced entry attempts, tampering, and hacking, these locks utilize durable materials like hardened steel, zinc alloy, and reinforced components to provide strong physical resistance. Their smart technology often includes encryption protocols and multi-factor authentication to protect against digital breaches. Many models feature automatic locking mechanisms that engage when the door closes, ensuring the property is always secured without manual intervention.

Ideal for residential homes, apartments, offices, and commercial properties, smart anti-theft door locks provide peace of mind through seamless integration with smart home systems and security cameras. They offer customizable access for family members, employees, or service providers, enabling temporary or scheduled entry without the need to distribute physical keys. Furthermore, many smart locks support voice control via popular virtual assistants, making daily use intuitive and effortless.

Energy-efficient designs with long-lasting batteries and low power alerts ensure continuous protection without frequent maintenance. Some models also include emergency mechanical keys or backup power options to prevent lockouts during power failures. Installation is straightforward, often requiring no modifications to existing doors, making smart anti-theft door locks an accessible upgrade for anyone seeking to enhance security.

Overall, smart anti-theft door locks combine cutting-edge technology, robust construction, and user-friendly features to deliver a reliable, flexible, and modern solution for safeguarding properties against theft and unauthorized access. Whether upgrading an existing security system or installing new locks, choosing a smart anti-theft door lock means investing in a safer and more connected environment.
