The four elements of a successful fermentation bed

Now that many people have a basic understanding of the pigs living in fermentation beds, it's important to know what to watch out for when using Jinpo pigpen fermentation beds. The effectiveness of the fermentation bed depends on the microbial activity within it. Several factors influence this activity, which can be divided into internal and external causes. The internal cause mainly relates to the activity level of the microorganisms themselves. Our Jinpo fermentation bed additives contain powerful functional strains with high vitality, so users don’t need to worry about internal issues. External factors that affect microbial activity include temperature, humidity, nutrient composition, and oxygen supply. Let’s go through each one: 1. **Temperature**: The functional bacteria thrive best at temperatures above 10-15°C. If the temperature drops below 5°C, they enter a dormant state. In such cases, artificial heating is usually required to restart the process. Once the fermentation generates enough heat, the temperature can be maintained naturally. 2. **Humidity**: The optimal moisture level for these bacteria is between 50% and 60%. If it's too low, their activity slows down. If it's too high, poor ventilation may occur. Therefore, keeping the moisture content of the fermentation material between 50% and 60% is ideal. This range also suits the comfort of the pigs. 3. **Nutritional Composition**: The litter contains a lot of lignin, providing a good carbon source for the functional bacteria. Pig waste adds nitrogen and salts, which help the bacteria multiply quickly and break down the litter and urine, reducing odors effectively. 4. **Oxygen Supply**: The top layer of the bed, made of sawdust, is loose and allows good air circulation. This ensures sufficient oxygen for the microbes. However, if the litter becomes too compacted due to pressure or time, manual loosening or poking holes can improve airflow and maintain a healthy environment. All of these factors are manageable and well understood. So, do you still worry about your fermentation bed? With proper care, there’s no problem. Your pigs will thrive in such a clean and comfortable environment—making them healthier and more productive.
