Canada launches new ambulance for obese patients The Calgary City Health Department of Canada has launched a new ambulance specifically designed to treat and transport obese patients.
The ambulance has a widened stretcher and a medical crane that gently lifts patients weighing 450 kilograms into the ambulance compartment.
“People are becoming more and more obese. We need an ambulance that can take on more weight and reduce the harm our health care providers have during the process of lifting obese patients.†Eric A, Director of Emergency Medical Services, Calgary Nestaard said.
In Canada, regular ambulances are designed for patients weighing less than 160 kg.
According to official Canadian statistics, the number of overweight or obese (how to treat obesity) patients in Canada has increased significantly in recent years. About 6 million Canadians are diagnosed with obesity, accounting for more than 20% of the total population.
