Shrimp are also highly susceptible to vitamin C deficiency. One of the most well-known conditions is "black dying disease," where wounds take longer to heal, and black ulcers develop under the shell. This condition can cause mass mortality. Other symptoms include soft shells, prolonged molting periods, white and cloudy muscles, and general weakness. These issues significantly impact the productivity and health of shrimp in aquaculture.
To prevent these problems, it is recommended that vitamin C be included in fish and shrimp feed at levels 4 to 5 times higher than their daily requirements. This ensures adequate intake and supports optimal growth, immunity, and overall well-being. Proper supplementation with vitamin C is essential for maintaining healthy aquatic populations and improving farm productivity.
