Dairy cow rearing and management

Cows enter lactation late in the lactation period. The characteristic of this period is that the amount of lactation gradually declines by about 57% per month. Its feeding task is to slow down the rate of decline in lactation, in order to prevent obesity due to excessive feed intake, the proportion of green roughage should be increased according to feeding standards, and the nutrient concentration of concentrates should be reduced, and the supply of concentrate feed should be reduced.
From 5 to 6 months after the cow's birth to dry milk, it is called late lactation. At this time the cows are nearing the end of their pregnancy, the growth of the fetus is accelerated, and the milk production drops sharply until dry milk. Therefore, in this period, the amount of concentrate feed should be adjusted every 1 to 2 weeks according to body weight and milk production, and attention should be paid to the sensation. The cows with poor sensation and physical weakness can appropriately increase the amount of concentrate feed to meet the requirement. The need for dairy cows to recuperate and the rapid growth of the fetus lays the foundation for ensuring the growth and development of the fetus and the high yield of calving during the dry period.
