1. Grouping and Insulation. To improve survival rates, goslings should be raised in groups of 20-30 per group. Newly hatched goslings are sensitive to temperature changes, so it's important to provide warmth during the first 1-2 weeks. The brooding temperature should be maintained at 30-32°C for the first 7 days after hatching, then decreased by 1°C daily until it reaches room temperature (15-25°C). If the temperature is too low, goslings may huddle together, which can lead to suffocation or death. It’s essential to monitor their behavior regularly. Use a water dispenser to gently hold their heads and let them drink several times. In large groups, only a few need to be trained, as the rest will follow. On warm days, you can place them in a basket and immerse them in shallow water for about 4 minutes, allowing them to drink freely before starting to eat.
After the initial watering, feeding can begin. Offer finely chopped green feed mixed with a small amount of concentrate feed. For the first week, feed goslings no less than 7 times a day and 2 times at night. As they grow older, the number of feedings can gradually decrease.
3. Feed Composition. Gosling feed should consist mainly of a mix of concentrate feed (with around 20% crude protein) and green feed (such as vegetables and grass). The ratio of fine feed to green feed should be 1:2 to 1:3. Before feeding, cut the leaves and tender grass into small pieces to make it easier for the goslings to digest.
4. Grazing and Swimming. Goslings can begin grazing and swimming 3-7 days after hatching in summer and 10-15 days in winter and spring. On sunny days, allow short grazing sessions and let them swim 1-2 times a day, each lasting 15-30 minutes. Gradually increase the duration over time to support healthy growth and development.
5. Night Lighting. Proper lighting is essential during the night to prevent rodent attacks and to assist with nighttime feeding. A 40-watt bulb should be used for every 40 goslings, placed on a pole 1.5 meters above the ground. After 30 days, gradually reduce the lighting time to help the goslings adjust to natural light cycles.
